Corfu with its beauty and mild climate, is ideal for those interested in sports especially during summer. Apart from swimming, the visitor can try many different water sports like windsurfing, canoeing, water skiing, paragliding etc. In many places there are also professionally run scuba diving schools for the novice and the experienced diver.
Sailing offers lots of opportunities for exploration of the picturesque coastline in the Ionian Sea. On the island there are almost 300 sailing boats of different sizes and horsepower, available for rent. In Gouvia, near Corfu Town, there is a full equipped marina with 500 moorings. Marinas can also be found in Paleokastritsa, Benitses, Kasiopi, Petriti and Lefkimi. Every year the Corfiot Sailing Club organises international sailing races.
In the Ropa valley the tourist can visit the Corfu Golf Club, one of the best golf courses to be found in the Mediterranean. In the Golf Club golf lessons are given and it is possible to hire all the necessary equipment including golf carts. Twice during the year golf championships are organised.
In Corfu Town is the Corfu Tennis Club operating since 1896 and it is one of the first clubs that operated in Greece. It is open all day and it has 4 tennis courts which can be rented by the hour.
In the famous Espianada square, near the Liston in Corfu Town, is one of the few cricket grounds in Europe, outside of Great Britain. On the island there are 4 cricket teams who, during the summer, organise matches. Each September a cricket festival is organised between the Corfiot teams, teams from Malta and Great Britain.
There are also horse riding clubs to be found all over the island, a mountaineering club and cycling clubs for the lovers of nature.
In Aghios Gordis beach there is a well organised paragliding school and hillside parapente.
